Let's go Scuba Diving...
to descend into turquoise colored waters to swim with the sea turtles, dolphins, manta rays, whale sharks, and other majestic creatures. Scuba Diving is often a life changing experience that creates a yearning for more. It's these experiences that Seal Sports of Louisiana provides; we have the pleasure of introducing and providing the resources for human beings, such as you, to experience the underwater realm both close and abroad.
"From birth, man carries the weight of gravity on his shoulders. He is bolted to earth. But man has only to sink beneath the surface and he is free."
– Jacques Cousteau
Scuba Diving was introduced to the masses by Jacques Cousteau in the 1960's with his TV program, "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau", but he was not the first to dive. Man has been going underwater since the dawn of man and water! Ancient Greeks used diving as an early form of fishing; diving bells invented in 1535; a rebreather developed in 1808 by a mechanic in Napoleon’s Imperial Navy; and helmet diving invented in 1837. Since then, diving has become a lot easier, much safer, and more popular amongst people of all ages. We are now a tribe of over 1.6 million active Aquanauts worldwide! (After all, the earth is 71% water, it’s estimated that up to 80% of all life on earth is found under the ocean surface and the oceans contain 99% of the living space on the planet. Less than 10% of that space has been explored by humans. Up to 60% of the human body is water; it's no wonder we're drawn to the water --come on and join in!)
