Summer 2013, a group of young divers spent five days learning and practicing skills such as buoyancy control, mask clearing, and regulator recovery, which are all part of the PADI Seal Team program that introduces kids to the wonders of breathing and moving underwater.
Seal Sports Instructor Joel Luker expanded the program to include environmental and marine science, ecosystem awareness, and implemented underwater games that took the program to a new level of fun and adventure. "It was the best camp I've ever been to," said one student of her experience, "I thought that it was going to be a lot of fun, but it was even better than what I expected."
For Joel, "It was just fun to be back in the pool and be a kid again. I think I may have had as much fun as they did."
Every camp includes AquaMissions in the pool, with students using all the same gear as adult divers. In addition to all of the underwater adventures, an 'under the sea' science lesson takes place daily, providing all of the kids with an opportunity to expand their learning and enjoyment of our oceans and waterways.
Children ages 8-12 years may participate, and the last day includes a pizza party celebration.
